ZIA accredits architectural practices across three tiers, reflecting their experience, professional standing, and quality management. Use these tiers to find a practice that matches your project's needs.
Fully accredited firms meeting ZIA's highest standards for professional practice, insurance, and quality management.
Registered architectural practices in good standing with ZIA, led by a registered architect.
Emerging practices led by graduate architects building their professional experience.
Chartered Practices represent the highest level of ZIA accreditation. These firms have demonstrated mature professional capability over at least five years, maintain Professional Indemnity Insurance to protect clients, and operate a documented Quality Management System. For complex, large-scale, or high-risk projects — such as hospitals, large commercial developments, or public infrastructure — a Chartered Practice offers the greatest assurance of competence and accountability.
Registered Practices are led by a registered architect and maintain current ZIA membership with annual renewal. They are well suited to a broad range of residential, commercial, and institutional projects. Choosing a Registered Practice ensures that your architect is legally recognised, bound by the ZIA Code of Conduct, and subject to the Institute's professional oversight.
Graduate Practices are emerging firms led by graduate architects who are building professional experience under supervision and mentorship arrangements. They often bring fresh perspectives and competitive fees, making them a strong choice for smaller residential projects, renovations, or clients who wish to support the next generation of Zambian architects. All Graduate Practices operate within ZIA's mentorship framework to safeguard quality.
The official ZIA Register lists all architects legally recognised to practise architecture in Zambia under the Architects Act, Cap 442. The register is updated annually and is the authoritative record of all registered and licensed architectural practitioners.
